"MBBS: A Degree, Two Doctors and A Love Life’’ - My entry for the Get Published contest

Love- is it only a word, a feeling or a way of life! Even the wisest of this world can't claim to have understood the meaning and depth of love. Love is seen in many forms around us and I have just tried to understand an aspect of this great feeling through this story.

The Idea

This is a story of three friends studying for an MBBS degree. What's so unusual in this storyline? There are only two certificates and three doctors! Ambition drives each of them to become a successful medical practitioner but is ambition plus degree is all that is required to become a doctor? As the story proceeds, the readers are introduced to the good and the ugly faces of this so common attribute called ambition. What comes as a surprise is the love that springs between two of the friends. Love- so pure a feeling- is combined with something so undivine. No, its not lust. Love remains untouched by all the happenings in the lives of these two lovers and of course, their third friend. Even when it should take the responsibility, love remains silent.

When love and ambition make two hearts beat, what happens to faith? There's a life changing consequence resulting from a subtle crime- yes a crime! Its not murder of a friend as the readers might speculate but its a crime. What happens to love then? Does it remain silent, does it react or does it end or does it grow even more intense?

What Makes This Story ‘Real’

Inspired by a real crime of our times, this story is an attempt to bring out the impact of over-rated ambitions and short-cuts adopted by today's youth to achieve success. What's stunning in this real story is the love angle which in today's time is said by many to be skin-deep. Love, as it appears in the life of two of the protagonists in this story, displays various colours but not one and that is of superficiality.
